I've posted about this before, but again I feel compelled to share the inspiring work and comforting words of Scott Noelle, creator of Enjoy Parenting and The Daily Grove. The Daily Groove is a concise, supportive, and very wise daily email that encourages those on the conscious parenting path. You can read it in about a minute, and you'll be amazed that he can continue to come up with such needed information and ideas five times a week (even geniuses need to rest on weekends).

Here's what today's email had to say. I found it so helpful and, well, relieving:

Watching children grow is one of the pleasures of

Pandemics: Building Natural Immunity

When people ask me about my decision not to vaccinate by daughter (I did immunize her, of course, by breastfeeding), I tell them that the main reason is because I believe that in today's world building a strong immune system is incredibly important. The overuse of antibiotics had rendered many of us susceptible to infection (antibiotics are cheap and available over the counter in Mexico, where people use them at any sign of illness, is it any wonder this epidemic took a strong hold there, that the only deaths from this disease have been there?), toxic chemicals that didn't even exist decades ago are abundant in our food, air, and water, and the possibility of chemical or biological warfare means that we could come into contact with unknown substances at any time. 

These are the reasons I chose not to compromise my child's immunity by weakening her immune system with vaccinations, and why I focus on building a strong immune system with nourishing food, fermented foods that contain probiotics, tonic herbs, and by letting minor illnesses run their natural, immune-building course in her body without medical treatment. I highly recommend parents do some research about natural ways to bolster their family's immunity.

SWINE FLU INFORMATION ALERT

With all the dire warnings, where is the message about building natural immunity?

Dear Members,

You are all aware of the dire warnings about swine flu, the outbreak that started in the Mexican village of La Gloria and which local residents blame on infection and/or toxins coming from local confinement hog operations.

The internet is abuzz with warnings bordering on hysteria (conventional media) to a variety of conspiracy theories, and even to allegations that the pandemic is a government fabrication designed to sell stockpiles of anti-viral medications.

Conventional medical advice ranges from wearing face masks to taking the anti-viral drug called tamiflu (which can have many serious side effects, see http://www.askapatient.com/viewrating.asp?drug=21087&name=TAMIFLU.)

It is interesting to note that not once in all the media broadcasts have we heard any mention of building natural immunity

NATURAL IMMUNITY
Fortunately, we do not have to sit back and listen to the news about swine flu feeling helpless and anxious.  We can be proactive by simply nourishing ourselves and our families.

Vitamins A and D in cod liver oil offer strong protection against infection of all types, as well as against environmental toxins.

Vitamin C is important-either from vitamin C-rich foods like sauerkraut, or from one of the natural vitamin C supplements recommended in our Shopping Guide.

Healthy gut flora provide 85 percent of our protection against disease.  Be sure to consume healthy lacto-fermented foods and beverages every day and avoid the foods that disrupt gut flora, especially refined carbohydrates.

Bone broth plays a double role of supporting the immune system and helping the body detoxify.

COCONUT OIL
We are grateful to Beth Beisel, registered dietitian and WAPF member for reminding us about the protective factors in coconut oil. Swine flu is a lipid coated virus (http://www.pnas.org/content/98/5/2115.full.pdf+html), and thus is inactivated by sufficient amounts of monolaurin.   (Our bodies convert lauric acid, found in coconut oil, to monolaurin).

According to our own Dr. Mary Enig, two to three tablespoons of coconut oil per day appears to be an adequate dosage to fight infection, even from virulent antibiotic-resistant organisms such as MSRA.

There are lots of ways to get coconut oil into the diet: stir coconut oil in some tea; make macaroons; replace some of the butter in baking with coconut oil; and use it in cooking/sautéing. Mary's oil blend (see below) is a good way to incorporate coconut oil in cooking and salad dressings.

MARY'S OIL BLEND
1/3 melted coconut oil
1/3 sesame oil - expeller pressed
1/3 100% olive oil

Combine oils, store in a tight container, in an area free from sunlight, and use in cooking or on salads.

COCONUT SMOOTHIE
Beth has shared this great smoothie recipe with us.

1 banana
1 cup frozen mango
1 cup frozen pineapple
1 cup orange juice
1/2 cup pomegranate/blueberry juice
1/2 cup natural yogurt or kefir, preferably homemade from raw milk
1/2 can coconut milk

Whirl in blender and drink to your health!

Real Food for Mother and Baby

Tomorrow Nina Planck's new book comes out! I have blogged about her here before, and think that her previous book Real Food; What To Eat and Why should be the first book anyone interested in nutrition should read. 

And since I also think that every mother should be interested in nutrition, I was thrilled when I first found out she was writing this book:

After reading her first book I sent Nina a fan mail sort of email, telling her the story of how my mostly vegan diet had caused my postpartum breastfeeding body to become depleted and exhausted, and how we had found traditional whole foods to be the perfect antidote to my huge new-mama nose dive into ill health.

I also mentioned how it just made sense to us that if we were going to give birth naturally, breastfeed, and hold and sleep with our daughter the way humans have done for millennia, that we would also eat the real, nourishing foods our ancestors had eaten for millennia.

Well, she wrote back and asked if she could tell our story in the new book she was working on! I haven't seen the book yet (though Nina did graciously offer to send us a copy), but I am so excited to read our story in print in a book by one of my favorite authors, and to read the rest of the excellent information the book contains.

After I posted about how the cardboard box is more nutritious than the cereal it contains a few days ago I got a lot of hits. When I looked through my stats I saw that many of them came from desertmedicinewoman.blogspot.com, aka Gaia's Gifts: Plant Spirit Medicine and Herbal Lore. I followed the link and discovered that it was herbalist Darcey Blue who ran the blog and who had posted a link to my post, and that her site was full of good information and witty observations.

So I found this article today, on the top 10 money saving pantry essentials, and frankly was appalled at MOST of the suggestions this article makes. Follow them, and you are well on your way to insulin resistance, cardiovascular disease, and even diabetes.

Here's their top 10 suggestions, and my top 10 improvements that are friendly on the wallet and your health!

I first read this article, and heard my herb teacher talk about the same thing during a nutrition lecture, at the same time that Mycie was about 1 and was eating new solid foods- including rice cakes. These are such a convenient snack, and she enjoyed them so much, that we were feeding them to her pretty regularly. I was also eating a lot of corn flake type cereal when I was in a rush. I am so grateful that this information came to my attention when it did. It makes perfect sense that taking grains in their natural state and then putting tremendous amounts of pressure and heat on them would result in a toxic product, but few people know about this, and many people don't want to know about it. That same herb teacher, Kami McBride, used to say that one of her most important missions was educating mothers about how unhealthy cereal really is for their children. I think of Michael Pollan's advice: the more health claims a food product makes on its packaging, the less healthy and more de-natured it actually is. I found this at the website Nourishing Our Children.

A typical American breakfast consists of a bowl of cold cereal, which is made by a process called extrusion.

An extruder is an industrial machine that produces little flakes, O's and other shapes and puffed grains using high temperatures and pressures. The cereal industry has convinced the FDA that extruded grains are no different from non-extruded grains and has contrived to ensure that no studies have been published on the effects of extruded foods on either humans or animals. However, two unpublished animal studies indicate that extruded grains are toxic, particularly to the nervous system.

 

Studies Show Extruded Cereal is Toxic

Paul Stitt described one in his book Fighting the Food Giants. Four sets of rats were given special diets. One group received plain whole wheat, water, vitamins and minerals. Another group received Puffed Wheat, water and the same nutrient solution. A third set was given water and white sugar, and a fourth given nothing but water and the chemical nutrients. The rats that received the whole wheat lived over a year on the diet. The rats that got nothing but water and vitamins lived for about eight weeks, and the animals on a white sugar and water diet lived for a month. But [the company's] own laboratory study showed that rats given vitamins, water and all the Puffed Wheat they wanted died in two weeks. It wasn't a matter of the rats dying of malnutrition; results like these suggested that there was something actually toxic about the Puffed Wheat itself. Proteins are very similar to certain toxins in molecular structure, and the puffing process of putting the grain under 1500 pounds per square inch of pressure and then releasing it may produce chemical changes which turn a nutritious grain into a poisonous substance.

The other study, described in Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon, was performed in 1960 by researchers at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. Eighteen rats were divided into three groups. One group received cornflakes and water; a second group was given the cardboard box that the cornflakes came in and water; and the control group received rat chow and water. The rats in the control group remained in good health throughout the experiment. The rats receiving the box became lethargic and eventually died of malnutrition. But the rats receiving cornflakes and water died before the rats that were given the box – the last cornflake rat died on the day the first box rat died. Before death the cornflake rats developed schizophrenic behavior, threw fits, bit each other and finally went into convulsions. Autopsy revealed dysfunction of the pancreas, liver and kidneys and degeneration of the nerves in the spine – all signs of "insulin shock." The startling conclusion of this study is that there is more nourishment in the box that cold breakfast cereals come in than in the cereals themselves.

Millions of children begin their day with a bowl of extruded breakfast cereal. Do the toxic protein fragments in these cereals explain why so many of our children cannot concentrate at school?

Old-fashioned porridge with butter or cream and a natural sweetener
Scrambled eggs and sautéed potatoes
Fried egg with no-nitrate bacon and whole-grain sourdough toast
Smoothie made with whole yoghurt, fruit and egg yolks

I'd like to add that cereal isn't the only culprit here. There's rice cakes, as mentioned, and things like graham crackers and other crackers, etc...

I've been so busy! As you can see on the right there, Violet Folklore is up and (sort of) running. My "husband figure" (as my friend Alison recently referred to her own) has been out of town and so I've hardly had a moment to come here and connect with everyone.

Herbs that Ease Anxiety and Fear

c. 2002 by Susun S Weed In the wake of the terrorist attacks (9-11), many women find that they are fearful, anxious, nervous, or depressed. In this series of articles adapted from her best-selling book New Menopausal Years the Wise Woman Way (available through www.ashtreepublishing.com, herbalist Susun S Weed shares her favorite herbs and home remedies for dealing with fear, anxiety, nervousness, grief, depression, rage, fatigue, and sleeplessness. Her Wise Woman remedies are simple and safe to use, easy to find and buy, and amazingly effective. Fear and anxiety are closely linked, but quite different. Fear is focused, anxiety is diffuse. Fear is health promoting and protective: It keeps us from jumping off cliffs. Anxiety can destroy health and increase our vulnerability: It shortens our breath, narrows our blood vessels, and interferes with the functioning of the immune system. Fear is useful energy; it calls to our courage. Anxiety is useless; it promotes feelings of insecurity, helplessness, weakness.  Notice the difference in yourself between fear and anxiety. Whenever possible, find the fear hidden in your anxiety and let it call forth your strength and power. The following remedies can help you make this transformation.  Bach flower remedies are easy to carry and use. A dose is 1-4 drops, taken as needed. One or more of the following may ease your anxiety: Aspen (anxious about the future); Mimulus (anxious about the past); Red Chestnut (anxious about the safety of others); Elm (overwhelming anxiety); Rock Rose (anxiety that escalates into panic). The smell of roses has been used for centuries to ease anxiety. A touch of rose essential oil on the seam of your sleeve will wrap you in calming fragrance all day. To magnify the effect, have a massage with rose-scented balms. Even one massage can cause a marked decrease in anxiety for weeks afterwards.
Yoga postures, yoga breathing, and quiet, focused meditation are excellent ways to tonify (and soothe) the sympathetic nervous system. Regular practice alleviates anxiety, often permanently. If you feel so anxious you think you might burst, try the lion pose. Open your mouth very wide; even wider! Stick your tongue out; even further. Open your eyes really wide; bigger. Rotate eyes left, then right. Breathe deeply and exhale fully up to ten times. Keep the shoulders and the forehead relaxed. This pose unblocks the throat, releases facial tension, relaxes the breathing muscles, and relieves anxiety.
Stinging nettle infusion strengthens the adrenals: relieving anxiety and building focused energy. Depleted adrenals often over-react, giving rise to sudden sensations of anxiety, fear, and nervousness. Use bulk herb, not tea bags, not capsules. Put one ounce by weight (about a cup by volume) of the dried nettle herb in a quart jar. Fill the jar to the top with boiling water and cover tightly. Let steep for at least four hours; overnight is fine. Strain herb out and drink the remaining liquid. Iced nettle infusion is particularly good. The taste is green, like spinach broth, and is better seasoned with salt than sugar or honey. Refrigerate your nettle infusion after straining it and drink it promptly as it is likely to ferment is kept for more than two days. Oatstraw infusion is another favorite of those who want to feel less anxious. Preparation is the same as for nettle infusion; remember to avoid tea bags and capsules. The taste of oatstraw is softer and more mellow; you will enjoy it warm with a little honey. Green oat tincture is much more powerful than oatstraw infusion. It is especially useful for those whose anxiety is combined with excessive nervous energy. Or try a hot bath with lemon balm or oatstraw; an ancient remedy for bad cases of the “nerves.” Ahhhh. . . . Motherwort tincture is my favorite calmative. It is not sleep inducing nor mind numbing. A dose of 10-20 drops can safely be taken as often as every ten minutes, if needed, to calm and soothe sore spirits. "Like sitting in my mother's lap," one satisfied user commented. Motherwort tea tastes terrible and is not very effective; likewise the capsules are not useful. Motherwort tincture can be taken every day if you wish, but you will find that you don't need it as you have used it for a while. A dropperful of St. Joan’s/John's wort tincture is the remedy to reach for when you are on edge and feel like anything will push you over it. The dose can be repeated safely several times an hour if needed. This nerve-nourishing and nerve-strengthening herb relieves the immediate anxiety and helps prevent future distress as well. Herbal tranquilizers are safer than prescription tranquilizers, but are best reserved for occasional use. Valerian is the best known. Because its action can be quite strong, it is best to begin with a five-drop dose, which can be repeated every 10-15 minutes until you are calm (and probably asleep). To avoid addiction, use valerian root as a tea or a tincture, not in capsules, and take it for no more than three weeks. Skullcap tincture is less addictive and often more effective. The dose is 10-20 drops of fresh plant tincture or 1-2 dropperfuls of dried plant tincture. Skullcap can also be sleep inducing, but it is rarely habituating.
	Exercise is a ready remedy for overwhelming anxiety. If you feel like running away from it all, running or skating or walking briskly might be the very thing to do. Fifteen to twenty minutes of heart-pounding exercise will use up your excess adrenalin and “eat up” your stress.
Extreme fear or anxiety may lead to hyperventilation. If you are breathing rapidly and shallowly and feel spaced out you can 1) breathe into a paper bag until normal breathing resumes or 2) hold your breath (you can actually put your hand over your nose and mouth) for a count of 20; then breathe out as slowly as you can. Calcium keeps the nerves steady. A glass of warm milk is an old wives' trusted ally for relieving anxiety. Stinging nettle is an excellent source of calcium when brewed as an infusion; one cup can contain as much as 500 mg of calcium. Oatstraw infusion is also loaded with calcium, with one cup containing up to 300 mg. Soy beverage can have the opposite effect -- that is, it may increase anxiety -- due to its ability to disrupt thyroid functioning and interfere with calcium metabolism. One herbalist who consumed large quantities of soy "milk" and soy protein bars wound up in the hospital with an irregular heartbeat and severe anxiety. If you think you are lactose intolerant, drink no more than four ounces of milk at a time, or use yogurt instead of milk. (Yogurt is generally free of lactose.) Of course you don't want to do all these things at once! But you could join a yoga class, use nettle or oatstraw infusion daily, and have a bottle of motherwort or skullcap tincture handy for times when you are exceptionally anxious. By working with strengthening herbs and exercises, you not only relieve the bothersome symptoms but improve your overall health. That's the Wise Woman Way.

Medicine Of Our Ancestors

This was written by one of my herb teachers, whom I've mentioned several times already on this site, Kami McBride. I've included the little bio from her website at the end. If you have any related stories to share, or this inspires you to seek some out, please post a comment about it! The only story I got from my grandma was that they used to rub turpentine on their chests for a cough. Not exactly herbal, or safe I would think, but there ya go.

Do you know any of the herbal remedies that were used by your mother, grandmother, great grand parents and aunties? Can you remember an ‘Old Wives Tale’ or a silly remedy that your mom always made you take when you started to get a cough?

As we now have a crisis in anti-biotic resistance to bacteria and anti-biotic resistance to very strong strains of staph infections, these old remedies become instantly relevant to what we need to support our health and wellness. A friend of mine is a Medical Doctor in a Bay Area hospital. She said that five years ago when there was a staph out break they would isolate the infected patients in one

area of the hospital. She said now they don’t even bother. The infections are so rampant, that it is very common for someone to be staying in the hospital for a routine knee, heart or gall bladder surgery and end up very sick from the infection they pick up in the hospital.

Currently patients have a 50% less chance of being effectively treated for a staph infection than they did in 1980. I think it is a good idea to use our wellness knowledge and herbal wisdom to try to stay well and out of the hospital! Even if you aren’t interested in studying herbal medicine or formally taking health classes, you can build a small repertoire of home remedies to help yourself and

your loved ones stay healthy and ward off infections. Put a little effort into interviewing the elders in your life. Ask any aunts, uncles, grandparents or friends of your parents if they remember any home remedies that your ancestors used. Very often they won’t remember right away, but if you put it out there that you are interested, usually at some point you will get a phone call.

I had been teaching herbal medicine for more than fifteen years before it dawned on one of my aunts that I might be interested in knowing that my great grandmother frequently made horehound cough drops for all the kids. Horehound cough drops take a fair amount of effort to make, so that story tells me that it was an effective remedy if she took the time to do it.

My other great grandmother, Lillie Belle McBride had six children and helped to take care of dozens of other neighbor kids and nieces and nephews. The story is that when one child let out a single cough, out came the onions and the whole house would reek as she cooked them up. She would chop up several onions, put them in a little water and slow cook them into an onion syrup. Every child that walked through her door then had to drink the onion syrup; it helped to keep a cold from spreading through the pack of kids. She didn’t want to take care of a dozen sick kids so she relied on onions to keep everyone well!

Our foremothers worked hard and if they took the time to make a remedy again and again it is because it worked. Many of the remedies that our elders used are very old remedies that had been passed down for many generations. These people didn’t go to school or read in books about their remedies. They used the remedies because they saw them applied in the household they grew up in and the empirical evidence of seeing it work made the remedy stick.

The problem is that a remedy that could have been successfully used within a family for hundreds of years can be lost in one generation. A single generation of children not interested in the remedies of the household means that it is not passed on. That is the common story in the United States. The love affair with pharmaceuticals took the place of onion syrup horehound cough drops.

If the home herbal remedies were dropped in your lineage, is there a thread that you can find to try and re-weave that fabric that once existed as central to the home environment? I recently had dinner at a friends’ house and their 92 year old grandmother was visiting from Idaho. At some point in the conversation the grandmother told a story about her mother being the town midwife in Eastern Europe in the late 1800’s. Well, most midwives at that time were also herbalists. I asked her a few questions and she said, “Oh my mom knew all the herbs, people came to her for all kinds of things”. She proceeded to tell several miracle stories of how her mom saved lives with the weeds she picked. I listened with great joy to the story of her mothers remedies and how she used them. My friends had no

idea that their great grandmother was an herbalist and a healer. I feel so blessed to have received that ancient healing knowledge from another time.

I had a student many years ago that hadn’t visited her grandmother for many years in Mexico. After taking herb classes she took a trip to see her grandmother and told her that she was interested in using herbs for healing. She had no idea that her grandmother knew about herbs. My student spent the next two weeks with her grandmother and great aunts harvesting wild herbs and learning how to make teas, herbal washes and syrups. Her grandmother was an herbalist and a healer and had learned the art from her mother.

Oh So Delicious & Super Medicinal- Honey & Cinnamon

With winter just around the corner, I've been making lists of things to do to a) get the house ready, b) acquire any warm clothes needed for the three of us on my thrifting adventures, and c) prepare some herbal medicines for common winter woes. One of my favorite winter remedies is also incredibly easy to make and absolutely delicious to eat. I mix 1 tablespoon powdered ginger and 2 tablespoons powdered cinnamon into 1 cup of raw honey. This warming, circulation-promoting blend is perfect for cold winter mornings- in tea, on toast, in oatmeal, the possibilities are endless.

It is found that a mixture of Honey and Cinnamon cures most of the diseases. Honey is produced in most of the countries of the world. Ayurvedic as well as Yunani medicine have been using honey as a vital medicine for centuries. Scientists of today also accept honey as a very effective medicine for all kinds of diseases. Honey can be used without any side effects for any kind of diseases. Today's science says that even though honey is sweet, if taken in the right dosage as a medicine, it does not harm diabetic patients.

Weekly World News, a magazine in Canada, on its issue dated 17 January, 1995 has given the following list of diseases that can be cured by Honey and Cinnamon as researched by western scientists.

HEART DISEASES: Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder, apply on bread, chappati, or other bread, instead of jelly and jam and eat it regularly for breakfast. It reduces the cholesterol in the arteries and saves the patient from heart attack. Also those who already had an attack, if they do this process daily, they are kept miles away from the next attack.

Regular use of the above process relieves loss of breath and strengthens the heartbeat. In America and Canada, various nursing homes have treated patients successfully and have found that as age the arteries and veins lose their flexibility and get clogged; honey and cinnamon revitalizes the arteries and veins.

INSECT BITES: Take one part honey to two parts of lukewarm water and add a small teaspoon of cinnamon powder, make a paste and massage it on the itching part of the body slowly. It is noticed that the pain recedes within a minute or two.

ARTHRITIS: Arthritis patients may take daily, morning and night, one cup of hot water with two spoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon powder. If taken regularly even chronic arthritis can be cured.

In a recent research conducted at the Copenhagen University, it was found that when the doctors treated their patients with a mixture of one tablespoon Honey and half teaspoon Cinnamon powder before breakfast, they found that within a week out of the 200 people so treated practically 73 patients were totally relieved of pain and within a month, mostly all the patients who could not walk or move around because of arthritis started walking without pain.

HAIR LOSS: Those suffering from hair loss or baldness, may apply a paste of hot olive oil, one tablespoon of honey, one teaspoon of cinnamon powder before bath and keep it for approx. 15 min. and then wash the hair. It was found to be effective even if kept on for 5 minutes.

BLADDER INFECTIONS: Take two tablespoons of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it. It destroys the germs in the bladder.

TOOTHACHE: Make a paste of one teaspoon of cinnamon powder and five teaspoons of honey and apply on the aching tooth. This may be applied 3 times a day till the tooth stops aching.

CHOLESTEROL: Two tablespoons of honey and three teaspoons of Cinnamon Powder
mixed in 16 ounces of tea water, given to a cholesterol patient, was found to
reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood by 10% within 2 hours. As mentioned for arthritic patients, if taken 3 times a day, any Chronic cholesterol is cured. As per information received in the said journal, pure honey taken with food daily relieves complaints of cholesterol.

COLDS: Those suffering from common or severe colds should take one tablespoon lukewarm honey with 1/4 spoon cinnamon powder daily for 3 days. This process will cure most chronic cough, cold and clear the sinuses.

INFERTILITY: Yunani and Ayurvedic Medicine have been using honey for thousands of years to strengthen the semen of men. If impotent men regularly take two tablespoon of honey before going to sleep, their problem will be solved.

In China, Japan and Far-East countries, women, who do not conceive and need to strengthen the uterus, have been taking cinnamon powder for centuries. Women who

*NOTE:The honey used needs to be REAL RAW UNPASTEURIZED HONEY. If it says PURE honey it is most likely pasteurized. It is best to only buy honey that says RAW or UNPASTEURIZED on the label. The difference is that the enzymes are all heated out of the pasteurized honey. 

Cinnamon and Honey formula for weight loss:

This should be prepared at night before going to bed.

1. Use 1 part cinnamon to 2 parts raw honey. 1/2 tsp cinnamon to 1 tsp honey is recommended but can use more or less as long as in the ratio of 1 to 2. --- so 1 tsp cinnamon to 2 tsp raw honey is ok too as an example.

2. Boil 1 cup...that is 8 oz of water.

3. Pour water over cinnamon and cover and let it steep for 1/2 hour..(30 minutes)

4. Add honey now that it has cooled. Never add honey when it is hot as the heat will destroy the enzymes and other nutrients in the raw honey.

5. Drink 1/2 of this directly before going to bed. The other 1/2 should be covered and refrigerated.

6. In the morning drink the other half that you refirgerated...but do not re-heat it...drink it cold or at room temp only.

Do not add anything else to this recipe. No lemon, no lime, no vinegar. It is not necessary to drink it more time in a day...it is only effective on an empty stomach and primarily at night.

This works for most people. Inches are lost before any measurement on the scales. This program will cause significant inches lost...but you will reach a plateau and may not lose anymore. This is because the cinnamon and honey cause a cleansing effect in the digestive tract and cleans out parasites and other fungus and bacteria that slow down the digestion...causing a toxic build up. (Lowers pH) Once this is all cleaned out then you will most likely have the weight loss slow down.
